It is that time of year again!
Xara is almost here!
:)
I don't know if you heard the legend from last year- the Supermodel Compound- but, this year we will be trying to find out just what that mansion in the middle of no where is all about!
I figure we do a repeat of last year and go on a fabulous nature hike at about 1 PM in the afternoon on Saturday, and hike up to that outpost of beautiful bliss! All participants are expected to meet at the Mekka stage at 1PM for the outing that you will never forget.

OK, if you dont know about the Supermodel Compound or Xara you probably will think I am going nuts-o right now! But thats OK. If you want to be nutz-o too, you will be joining us at Xara this year at the beautiful Madre-Grande Monastery! The attached info below will tell you all you need to know, or if you cannot make it, what you will be missing!

I am slated to be sharing my musical bliss on friday night at the Mekka Pocket stage, and I have an exciting musical selection for your dancing ass that you will remember for days to come!

Xara last year had so many wonderful and beautiful moments that I remembered all throughout this last year. I really hope to see your smiling face there! Make it a point to come up and say Hi!

Sincerely, Really!
Jokton

Miscellenea and Etcetera

The Xara Plaza:
A downtown district and performance space, with a main stage/observation deck, clubs, art installations, and theme camps, four point surrounding video supporting perfomances, interactive video projects and live feeds from the Intersections multi-point video project

Plaza Stage Performances:

The Mutaytor - Xara Dulzura's own artists in residence, recently signed to top management and on to amazing things. The hundred green drums, hoops, fire, dance, aerial and original music of this LA-based group have appeared at every Xara Dulzura since the beginning, converting civilians to rockstars and unleashing a transforming power with no effective safety perimeter. Now, with the whole world in their sights, they will turn loose a special spectacle for Xara Dulzura 2006, thanking the community for all of its support with old school thunder and lots of guest performances. Telecaster guitars shooting fire, spontaneous human combustion, that sort of thing.

Technomania Circus - San Diego's own and original, with all manner of eye-popping wierdness. Aerials, fire, geekery and uv effects.

Laura Escude - Violinist/Composer, a one woman proto-band, with surrounding video.

Renfey - multi-media rock venture into the mythosphere

Stefan Broadley and DMT, original music and interactive performance with audience experimentation

Turtlefuzz - Changing the way you see music.

DJ's Motion Potion & Wolfie - managing frenzy control before and after the Mutaytor performance

RootHub - blues all his own, on the Plaza by day, the SPOT Spot by night.

The Flametamers "FLASHPOINT!"- Original performance piece by San Diego Fire Troupe. The Flametamers embrace the essence of Xara in a collage of emotion, in an aesthetic caliope of sound. The mystical Queen of Light introduces us to fire and bagpipes, to Egyptian tabla and ambient groove. It's fervency and dance, it's anything you can imagine. It's the future. It's the past. It's a new beginning.

The Black Company - Steel Combat Performance with Burning Swords, Fire Faeries, and Giant Snake

Funky Gloworm - Future/Tribal/Retro/Rock, searing and soaring, plus

Aerial performances by Suzanne Bernel and Jim Oliver, Dancers, Fire Spinners, Stilt Walkers, Robots, Puppets, and
other things that don't have nouns assigned to them.

Plaza Clubs:

The Xaruba Cafe - The Bring Your Own Cup Cafe, serving Chai, Coffee, Tea, and perhaps even a cocktail or two. With belly-dancing, drumming, and dj's.

Club Nocturne - Presented by DJ Adam Wiggins - music, visuals, atmosphere and creature comfort

The SPOT Spot, Leopard Lounge and Showroom - a vanity project from the Xara creators offering a venue for discredited music, Jump Blues, and Smokey Ballads, Swing, Jive, Proper Rock, Live Performances and Sloppy Jams - Bugs Bunny visits Sidney Greenstreet's "Blue Parrot" from Casablanca, and has a malaria dream. Alternative to the Alternative.

Plaza Art:

The Plaza Itself - Xara itself began as a theme camp, grew into this retreat, and continues to grow as an art project. With 2006, it splits into two huge environments - The Plaza and The Ruins.

Arranged in a circle 100' across, The Plaza rises on a slope above the valley, surrounded by a ring of temporary structures dressed in the monumental facades of the manifesting Xara. Columns and domed ceilings, crested and corniced, surround the space, defining a social center and the audience space for big spectacles and live performances.

The following works of art are displayed on or in the Plaza at Xara Dulzura:

Salle Moreau - 3D Blacklight Installation - huge, chambered blackbox art gallery, featuring the work of Nigel Brookes, Iain Gunn, and Mark Johnson, and designed to be experienced with 3D glasses. Stunning kinetic effects and amazing whizzing things, with interactive live performance elements and a lot of stuff that will make you scratch your head and stroke your chin.

The Titans - A series of four larger-than-life statues, straining at the guywires that support the 30' circus aerial rig in the center of the Plaza. Sculpted by Alexis, making a dream come true.

Kinetic Fire Sculpture Works - by Alan Macy and Fishbon
Last year, Alan created a sculpture to display on the Plaza, a vertical piece with snaking lengths of conduit writhing on top and breathing fire. This year, Alan and Fishbon are presenting a series of new fire sculptures to place around the interior of the Plaza.
1) Fire Snakes - Flame effects modulated by ambient sound
2) Big Fire Snake - Cousin to Fire Snakes, one large snake as opposed to multiple smaller ones
3) Kaleidoscope Flame Speaker - Incorporates "Flame World", a purgatory-like environment which can be mutated to one's personal requirement
4) Chaos Fire Tulips - Complete with crowd pleasing interactive pull cords

Multi-point projection Video Art - Directed by Greg Young
The plaza will feature a series of large projection screens at opposite points surrounding the plaza, and visible from the valley below. A number of the live performances will be supported with their own video projections, and Greg will provide visuals for others. Video artists may schedule their own performances on the Plaza.

In addition, A Photo Share Station will be set up in the Plaza, where Participants are invited to download digital photos or video taken during the retreat, to be sorted and edited by Greg into slide and video shows to screen at night, feeding back images arising within the event itself.

Still further, live video feeds from the various Intersections video project locations will beam activities from different locations around the grounds to the Plaza video screens, as Participants in those locations interact remotely with one another. More on this below.

XD Burn Barrels by Magnus

Plaza Activities - A wide variety of activities will unfold in and around the Plaza during the weekend. Most will be extemporaneous things that simply unfold because there is an opportunity. It's totally unpredictable, and always the best part. Within the structures of the Plaza a number of groups and individuals will present activities of their own. F'rinstance,

Tabula Rasa - Jewelry Making Tools, Materials, Help and Encouragement

Palm and Tarot Readings

Massage

Shrine of the Flying Spaghetti Monster - Creative Mythology as satire, With requisite pirate regalia and occassional feedings by the good Pastafarians. "May he bless you and keep you in his sauce."

Glassblowing demonstrations

Interactive LED Congas, Invented Instruments by Henry Chang and Eric Stauber of Soul in the Machine - for you to thump and play

Xara-Q '06 - A Light At Your Journey's End

You know them from their tour de force appearances at Burning Man as Playa Q. You remember their Friday Feast on the Plaza during XD05, and have heard tales of their conquest of the Gigsville Iron Chef contest. Well, the Soss Boss and Shiek are coming back and they have plans for you. The Xara Q will present two projects this year, and neither are to be missed. They say...

"A hilltop beacon shines in the night.

Q…

Mysterious…

A letter of uncommon meaning…

Returning to Xara to provide sustenance and ethereal bliss, the Burning Man Multi-Sensory Performance Art Project, the PlayaQ, will bring participants of Xara Dulzura a feast for the body, and for those willing to journey forth, a delight for the soul.

XaraQ ’06 will provide two opportunities to indulge the senses. First, on Friday at 4:20 in the main Plaza, the PlayaQ will gift the Xara community of small sampling of their BBQ culinary artwork, featuring:

The Reverend’s Smoked Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwiches

A BBQ tradition, Smoked Pulled Pork transform a low quality cut of meat, into a savory, tender and flavorful shredded pork, brimming with rich smokey flavor. Traditional served on cheap white bread, BBQ fans will have their choice of several regional and exotic BBQ sosses to compliment the seasoned pork to create a BBQ sandwich of exquisite delight.

The Soss Boss’ BBQ’d Chicken Wings

Marking its one year anniversary, the PlayaQ will bring back “Satan’s Wangs”, a recipe first exhibited at Xara ’05. A carefully crafted culinary experience, Satan’s Wangs draw in the unsuspecting with its sinfully sweet succulence, only to unleash a torrent of hellfire that will leave indulgent sinners in a sweltering puddle of collar tightening sweat. Beware the trap and it at your own risk, novices and the faint of heart are advised to stick with the accompanying BBQ’d chicken wings prepared in sweet, hot and mild BBQ soss.

Marinated Smoked Vegetables

A wide array of vegetables will be tracked, hunted, attacked, tortured, massacred, slaughtered, butchered, drowned in marinade, asphyxiated in wood smoked, roasted over hot coals and sliced into little pieces for your enjoyment. No zucchini will be spared, no mushroom will be commuted. All will perish in a frenzy of root-lust and uncontrollable chlorophyll craving rage.

AND ALSO FROM XARA Q

Premiere of the BBQ Shack of the Future

Citizens of Xara second opportunity to experience the PlayaQ will be the premiere of its Burning Man ’06 culinary art project, the BBQ Shack of the Future. Located at Madre Grande’s Wing House, while its beacon shines over the land of Xara, the PlayaQ will reward any and all who make the journey up the mountain, past the Q, to the Shack. Awaiting all who sally forth and overcome obstacle and treacherous terrain will be a dizzying variety of PlayaQ dishes. As one returns under the illuminated symbol, its glow will cast a shadow of realization upon the landscape of the journeyers mind… Lest it be said for all to know, “The PlayaQ did not come here to fuck around.”

The BBQ Shack schedule will be posted as the event draws near and all items at the Shack will be selected at random from the PlayaQ’s repertoire of BBQ classics. Among the dishes that may be served once you have arrived at the Shack will be:

Dijon encrusted Rack of Lamb

Brimming with Fresh rosemary, the natural flavors of this finest cut of lamb is enhanced with the complimentary tastes of garlic, cracked pepper and granulated sea salt.

Traditional Baby Back Ribs

Among the most tender meats you can ever experience, these baby back ribs will slide off the bone and into your dreams. Prepared with over 15 herbs, spices and sosses, this secret recipe has been developed through years of research, devotion and spiritual channeling.

Argentinean Style Beef Tenderloin with Blue Cheese Alfredo Soss

Wrapped and grilled in fresh rosemary, chives, tarragon and oregano, this finest cut of beef slowly steeps in its own juices as they interplay with string-tied fresh herbs. Cooled and thinly sliced, the final flavor is the Soss Boss’ own Blue-Cheese Alfredo Soss which augments the natural fire-grilled flavors.

4 Walls of Rayford Pork Tenderloin

A classic recipe steeped in mystery surrounding a legendary Southern Prison from a time forgotten, this recipe features a lemon pepper coating on fork tenderized and buttery succulent pork tenderloin.

Grilled Churasco in a Chimi Churri Soss

A tribute to the blending cultures here within our paradise civilization, marinated and rubbed with 8 different herbs & spices, this skirt steak features a champagne vinegar, tart and spicy Chimi Churri Soss with a jalapeno kick.

Lemon, Herb & Butter Roasted Salmon

Fire Roasted and steeping in a buttery lemon-heaven, this salmon is sure to please sushi and seafood lovers alike.

Mango Teriyaki Grilled Tuna

Brought off the grill quickly to preserve the sashimi qualities of an excellent and flavorful fish, the Mango accented Teriyaki Soss sweetly compliments the finest red meat from the sea.

Grilled Jumbo Shrimp in a Spicy Diane Soss

An exceptional seafood come together in a spicy and peppery Diane Cream Soss. Served with bread to relieve the tastes buds of their burning passion, this combination has been known to cause spontaneous addiction.

Grilled Tofu in a Spicy Peanut Soss

I can’t swear it’s vegan, but I haven’t met a vegetarian that doesn’t love it.

These and many other culinary delights await the adventuresome traveler who wanders through the darkness of a Delzurian eve. Come feast your senses on the mystery that awaits. Come indulge your soul in a moment of heavenly bliss. Allow your taste buds to tango with a smoke filled aroma in a crisp nighttime stillness. Come experience XaraQ, just past the rock, at the sign of the Q.

See you at Xara!

The Blue Ninja Lounge - Presented by Ninja Skillz Music, Blue Insomnia, and Phoenix Projekt
"In the mythical paradise of Xara in an age long lost to antiquity and yet fortold by the sages of the present exists a place where the stories and legends of the east dance into vibrant and enduring life. A place under the watchful eye of the celestial Blue Ninja that oversees the celebrations and safe guards the participants therein. Here, dragons swirl amongst the crowd of unsuspecting guests, spirits of fire leap about the stage in a dance older than time, and the sounds of the celestials issue forth to touch the mortal soul. In the many heavens of asian myth, there exists one such place that willl appear at Xara Dulzura for 4 days before dissappearing in a brilliant flash of light to make the journey back into the skies. Mystical taiko drums manned by skilled spirits, strange contraptions for the smoking of tobacco, other-worldly brews to bend the senses, and an environment designed for comfort and comradery await you in the Blue Ninja Lounge. Suddenly the Far East is not so far away..."

Monkey Doo's Treehouse - The Hypnotic Discoteque returns to the Treehouse with beats, visuals, and singular atmosphere. Produced by Dan Jones and the new owners of Club Montage.

Mystic Garden - Moontribe's Jude and friends will create a large circle of space for comfort, company and a groove cruising in the mid-to-downtempo regions. With fire sculptures and flaming chandelier and pleasing things for all senses.

Pangea/Purple Turtle - a new continental collision between hyper-ambitious theme camps joins the vast enclosure, atmosphere, hospitality and sound of the Purple Turtle with the warmth, comfort, eye-popping video and visuals, sound and surprises of Pangea. It's just not fair, really.

Arax - Xara's campmates from Colorado will bring their own theme camp, a kind of anti-Xara (whatever that is) to XD in 06. With Rocky Mountain DJ's Chris Irvin, Schmidt-E, and Casey the Xarakitty

Jumanji - Our friends Andy and Kellee created a monster when they finally got Bubba to Burning Man. Now he's all about it, and dragging everybody else into his impossible energy. Jumanji will offer chill space, dance space, sound and handcrafted video across a multiprojector screen spanning the interior. Space heaters, inflatable furniture, and music of any and all kinds other than electronica.

LIberace's Closet - Costume Exchange and hospitality, by the Sun Center. Come, browse about in the chiffon, pick something you like. You can also donate that sequined scarf that is just so-last-night, and maybe see how someone else accessorizes it into the look-of-this-very-minute.

Bouncy Bouncy Club - though Simba himself was stolen this past year, Paynie anticipates inflating something again this year down near the gate. Home of the infamous Wilson-Phillips Pancake Breafast, and scene of last year's Sunday morning Angry Flowers Catapult Attack.

Bad Idea Theater - a crowd-pleasing favorite from the mighty Orange County, featuring films you can't believe ever got made and an environment just right for appreciating them.

The Saddlehorny Saloon - The Hosts' Hospitality Project - Monk Tracey from Madre Grande and the Mattola's, who own the ranch next door, will present a hospitality project of their own, under the spreading boughs of a big pine tree near the front gate. Come meet the nice people who produce and host this event with us, siddle up to the bar, straddle that vibrating saddle over the sawhorse, and order up something whistle-wetting.

Installations and Environments:

Intersections - Interactive, Multi-point remote video project. The Intersections crew will establish a series of remote locations around the retreat grounds, linked to one another and to the Plaza screens by wireless video connections. Actions here cause effects there, live and in real time. With green screen wizardry and many feats of technical derring-do.

The Stone House, by Bill Watson - A small, round house of stone with a fireplace, up a little trail just off the meadow will become Bill Watson's canvas to create a unique environment for Xara Dulzrua 2006. Ambient soundscapes and beautiful chill space welcome the beat-weary and invite interaction and conversation.

Hope's Garden - outdoor art installation, featuring 100 lit miniature trees, by Allie The Muse.

Fire Angel - Mike Henning from Intersections offers his group's fire sculpture as a source of warmth and light, inside and out. A taller-than life-sized metal angel with fire burning in its chest.

Miscellenea and Etcetera

Xara Spring Classic Whiffle Ball Championship - the First Annual, with a trophy and everything. The Purple Turtles under Kingsley face off against the Orange Juicers managed by Xara's Jason Baird, with extra rules about beer and other tomfoolery. Nobody could pick green, cuz Bobby Bobby is claiming it for the League Commish's jacket. What's he think, he just won the Xara Masters or something?

Still-Live-Nude-Painting - Xara's Lady Miss Stacey's interactive painting project, out and about in the meadows. A circle of easels and paints are set up around a comfy pedestal and passerby are invited to paint and/or pose and be painted. Models change and artists change in the middle of the paintings, and the result is quite something. Totally Xara, only at Xara.

- OR ALTERNATIVELY, ON THE OTHER HAND -

We hear Madonna is playing at Coachella that weekend... Hmmm, past or future?

The door to Xara opens here. www.xaraproject.org
